I used this to start pilot holes for some cabinet hinges and it worked perfectly. The point is sharp enough to pierce even tough fabric without snagging, which made reupholstering a chair cushion much easier.

The wooden handle feels solid in my hand and didn't slip once while I was poking starter holes through thick upholstery fabric. The tip is sharp enough to punch through without much force, which saved my fingers on a reupholstery project.

Just used this awl to mark holes for new drapery hooks, and the point is sharp enough to pierce through heavy fabric without slipping. The handle feels well-balanced in hand.
